چکیده

Introduction Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) is the most common idiopathic inflammatory myopathy in childhood. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non invasive tool to assess muscular edema. Its ability to distinguish between active JDM patients and inactive and healthy children is well described in the literature. However muscle biopsy still remains the gold standard in JDM diagnosis. Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) type I is overexpressed on sarcolemma of inflammatory myopathies and it could be detectable before inflammatory infiltrate appears on conventional tecniques and remains there in spite of treatment.

Introduction Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) is the most common idiopathic inflammatory myopathy in childhood, a systemic vasculopathy that usually affects skin and skeletal muscle but also can affect gastrointestinal tract and other organs. Diagnosis is based on Bohan and Peter’s criteria and the goals of treatment include control of skin and muscle symptoms and prevention of disease complicati...

Skeletal muscle major histocompatibility complex class I and II expression differences in adult and juvenile dermatomyositis

OBJECTIVE To analyze major histocompatibility complex expression in the muscle fibers of juvenile and adult dermatomyositis. METHOD In total, 28 untreated adult dermatomyositis patients, 28 juvenile dermatomyositis patients (Bohan and Peter's criteria) and a control group consisting of four dystrophic and five Pompe's disease patients were analyzed. Routine histological and immunohistochemica...

MHC Class I overexpression on muscles in early juvenile dermatomyositis.

OBJECTIVE To assess muscle expression of MHC Class I complexes (heavy chain and beta2-microglobulin) and to analyze the composition of infiltrating mononuclear cells, specifically cells that bear receptors for class I MHC molecules, in the muscles of children with early juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM). METHODS Light microscopic and immunohistochemical analysis of muscle biopsies from 10 patien...

An efficacy analysis of whole-body magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis and follow-up of polymyositis and dermatomyositis

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the value of whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WBMRI) in diagnosing muscular and extra muscular lesions in patients with polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM). METHODS A retrospective analysis of WBMRI data from PM/DM patients who met the Bohan and Peter diagnostic criteria was performed. X2 test was used to compare the rate of positive diagnosis of newly diag...
